The type of government of India is classified as a federal republic. It is the worlds largest democracy consisting of three branches: the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary.
With the President being chief of state, it is actually the Prime Minister, who is appointed by the President, who exercises most of the executive powers and is head of the county's government affairs.
India's legislature is the bicameral Parliament, consisting of the upper house and the lower house, called the Rajya Sabha (Council of States), and the lower the Lok Sabha (House of People) respectively.
The President, Vice-President, and the Council of Ministers constitute the executive branch. The Cabinet, headed by the Prime Minister, is its executive committee, appointed by the President.
The Chief Justice of India heads the Supreme Court, which is the independent judiciary. The president appoints one chief justice and 25 associate justices.
